Tenant Groups

The Association is eager to give the tenants a chance to take part in the decisions on the policies that affect their tenancy and their homes. The Association has a Tenants’ Participation Strategy that gives the Association targets and objectives to reach that ensure that the tenants have every opportunity to take part. This Strategy is monitored and reviewed annually. One way to take part in the activities and any community development is to become part of a Tenants’ group.

We have 2 part time Community Officers within the Community Projects team who can help by:

  • Provide help to setup a group, offer support and training and help with the projects
  • Pay for a meeting place for the group and someone to hold a crèche ( to ensure that parents can also come to the groups)
  • Give a yearly grant of £50 to the group for administration costs (e.g. paper, phone calls, stamps) The group must have a Constitution and have opened a bank account to claim the £50 but the Community Officers can help with this.

There are a number of tenants groups across Gwynedd and Anglesey. Some of these are groups of Council tenants, other housing associations and some private residents. Sometimes the groups like to work in a formal way (with a Constitution) as it is easier to attract grants for projects of different natures, to discuss problem and improvements to their estates and also to arrange social activities e.g. trips.

Some of the tenants groups that have been established are:

  • Ty’n Rodyn Group
  • Hafan Deg, Tanygrisiau
  • Maesincla Community Group – They hold a ‘scandals café’ every Wednesday in the centre between 10 and 2 o’ clock.
  • Cerrig yr Afon, Porthmadog – The group was re-established at the beginig of 2004. The group wants to tackle problems like parking and rubbish, and the Association is working with them to raise funds to add to the community garden on the estate.
  • Llysiau Lleu – Llysiau Lleu was established in March 2002 to create a health and gardening project in Talysarna and Nantlle. The group has arranged gardening classes, visits to other projects and vegetable boxes, and a project to map the area.
  • Pwyllgor Penygroes – The Association helped setup the Pwyllgor October 2002 after a series of public meetings, the Pwyllgor were successful in a grant of £8,000 to employ a Consultant to develop a Strategy for the area.

If you would like to start a Tenants Group in you’re area or estate, or if you would like any support or advice, please contact our Community Officers and someone will come along and help you.
